What ICBC examiners actually grade
ICBC road tests in Abbotsford are conducted out of the local test centre. Examiners follow a consistent grading rubric: observation (mirror checks, shoulder checks, hazard scanning), vehicle control (smooth steering, braking, parking maneuvers), speed management (driving the posted limit — too slow fails as surely as too fast), and judgment (when to yield, when to take right-of-way, lane choice).
Our lessons map to those four categories. We don't pad with topics that aren't on the test.
Two ways to use our car for your test
- Road Test Car Rental — $70. Use of our ICBC-approved dual-control vehicle for the official test, plus a quick car-controls check before you head in. Instructor accompanies you to the test centre.
- 1-Hour Class + Road Test Car — $120. A 60-minute warm-up driving lesson immediately before your test, in the same car you'll test in. Most popular bundle for test day — calmer, sharper, more confident going in.
The Road Test Car Rental ($70) does not include a full warm-up lesson — just a quick controls check. If you want a full hour of practice before the test, choose the $120 bundle.
Common reasons students fail at the Abbotsford test centre
- Eye-only mirror checks (examiners want to see your head turn)
- Rolling stops at right-on-red turns and four-way stops
- Driving 5–10 km/h below the speed limit "to be safe"
- Forgetting the school zone speed reduction during posted hours
- Hesitating at uncontrolled intersections instead of taking right-of-way
- Reverse stall: over-correcting and crossing into adjacent stalls
- Parallel park: finishing more than 30cm from the curb

If you don't pass
ICBC will give you a printed feedback sheet showing exactly which skills you missed. Don't take it as failure — take it as a free targeted study guide. Book 2–3 driving classes ($55 each) focused on those specific areas, then re-attempt with confidence.
