The Class 7 (Novice) road test in BC
The Class 7 road test is the first behind-the-wheel test in the BC Graduated Licensing Program. You can take it after a minimum of 12 months on your Class 7 Learner's licence (9 months if you've completed an ICBC-approved Driver Education course). Pass it and you receive your Novice (N) licence — the green N magnet you'll display on the back of any car you drive for the next 24 months.
What's tested
The Class 7 test is the more forgiving of the two BC road tests. Examiners look for safe operation in everyday traffic — observation, smooth control, basic maneuvers (reverse stall, parallel parking, three-point turn), speed management, and judgment at common intersection types. The route stays close to the test centre and avoids highways.

After you pass
